The show is a collaboration of host and executive producer Rick Reiff and reporter/producer David Nazar, who tackle such news topics as politics, business, education, entertainment, lifestyle and sports. Reiff, executive editor of the Orange County Business Journal, has now won two Golden Mike awards in his career in addition to a Pulitzer Prize. Nazar, a veteran Los Angeles and Orange County television journalist and former Emmy® Award nominee, has now captured five Golden Mike awards.
The station recently revamped and expanded its weekly "Inside OC" program under a new banner that made its primetime debut as "SoCaL Insider with Rick Reiff" on Jan. 6. The show continues to feature revealing interviews with newsmakers and trendsetters, spirited panel discussions and in-depth field reports. It also has broadened its focus to encompass all six-counties of the 18-million-strong Southland, reflecting PBS SoCal's new status as the PBS flagship station for the entire Los Angeles media market.
"This is a gratifying send-off for ‘Inside OC' and a great way to launch ‘SoCaL Insider,'" says Reiff. "David Nazar and I share this award with the entire PBS SoCaL team, and we will strive to meet the Golden Mike standard every week."
"The judging was quite tough this year," adds Mike Taylor, PBS SoCaL news director, "so it's even more exceptional that the judges felt ‘Inside OC' definitely rose to the standard worthy of a Golden Mike award."
