PBS SOCAL RINGS IN NEW YEAR WITH PREMIERE OF
"SOCAL INSIDER WITH RICK REIFF"

Orange County's Liveliest Public Affairs Show Is Expanding With New Name, Look and Assignment to Cover All of Southern California

COSTA MESA, Calif. (December 21, 2011) --- PBS SoCal will begin 2012 with fireworks of its own by revamping and expanding its weekly "Inside OC with Rick Reiff" under a new banner that will make its primetime debut as "SoCal Insider with Rick Reiff" on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m. The show, recognized by OC Weekly as "the best local public affairs program," will continue to feature revealing interviews with newsmakers and trendsetters, spirited panel discussions and in-depth field reports. "SoCal Insider" will broaden the show's focus to encompass all six-counties of the 18-million-strong Southland, reflecting PBS SoCal's new status as the PBS flagship station for the entire Los Angeles media market.

The show is a collaboration of host and executive producer Rick Reiff and reporter/producer David Nazar, who will tackle such news topics as politics, business, education, entertainment, lifestyle and sports. Reiff, executive editor of the Orange County Business Journal, is a Pulitzer Prize and Golden Mike award winner. Nazar, a veteran Los Angeles and Orange County television journalist, is a winner of multiple Golden Mike awards and a previous Emmy® Award nominee.

"We felt it was extremely important to expand the show's focus in order to keep our wider range of viewers better informed about the communities they live in," says Mel Rogers, PBS SoCal president and CEO. "We now have remote production capabilities, so we'll be adding guests and stories from the entire Southern California region we serve. It's a big undertaking and commitment, but we're excited to be able to move the show forward to the next level."

Adds Reiff: "Is there any place in the world with more stories, bigger challenges, and such fascinating people? We're eager to cover the issues we face and to help define this place of many places, Southern California."
