February 13 - Rick moderates a panel discussion about the media’s coverage of indicted former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona at Jason’s Downtown Restaurant and Wine Cellar in Santa Ana. Panelists will be investigative reporters Scott Moxley of OC Weekly and Tony Saavedra of the OC Register and Carona advisor Michael Schroeder. The event is sponsored by the Orange County Press Club. March 6 - Rick emcees ARCS’ 8th Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner at the Beckman Center in Irvine. The event honors young University of California, Irvine scientists and also celebrates the 50th anniversary of ARCS’ founding in the wake of Sputnik.
